  2. Technology – is humans using objects (tools, machines, systems, and materials) to change the natural and human-made (built) environment. • Profit! – Technology is developed by business – Globall!!

  3. Positive and Negative Aspects • Positive – Helps us live better – Machines, TV, movies, videogames, MP3 players

  4. Negative – Pollution, job loss, war

  5. Evolution of Technology • Stone Age – 2 million years ago – fire, stone tools. • Bronze age – 3000 B.C. – copper and bronze along with agriculture and irrigation systems

  6. Iron age – 1200 B.C. – Iron and Steel is cheap and easy to make. Also the Alphabet, coins, Trade. • Dark Age – Small development continued

  7. Middle Ages – 400 A.D. – Printing Press, compass, waterwheel, paper money • Renaissance – 1300-1600 A.D. - Ship travel, calculator, telescope screwdriver.

  8. Industrial Revolution – 1700 – 2000??? • Loom, steam engine, cotton gin, standardized interchangeable parts, mass production.

  9. Information age – Now. • Automatic Machines, Trained Technicians, Engineers. We now have information at our fingertips.

  10. Technology is any tool that extends the human potential to accomplish tasks. • Stone Carving • Slate and Marker • Pen and Pencil • Typewriter • Word Processor • ???????

  11. Four Features of Technology • Is human knowledge • Produces products, structures, or systems (Artifacts) • Involves using tools, materials and systems • Modifies or controls the environment.
