the dti’s mission and purpose • Provide leadership to the SA economy through its understanding of the economy, its knowledge of economic opportunities and potential, and its anticipation of the future • Act as a catalyst for the transformation and development of the economy in order to support the government’s economic goals of growth, employment and equity • Respond to problems and opportunities in society • Provide an environment that is predictable, competitive, equitable and socially-responsible for investment, enterprise and trade for economic citizens
the dti’s Vision, its 10-year goals The 10-year goal of the dti is to raise the level of economic growth and create employment and reduce economic inequalities
the dti’sstrategic objectives for the next 3 years • Increase the contribution of small enterprises to the economy • Significantly progress broad-based black economic empowerment • Increase the level of direct investment overall and in priority sectors • Increase market access opportunities for and export of South African goods and services • Contribute towards building skills, technology and infrastructure platforms from which enterprises can benefit • Reposition the economy in higher value-added value matrices in knowledge-driven manufacturing and services • Contribute towards providing accessible, transparent and efficient access to redress for economic citizens

the dti structure (3) International Trade and Economic Development Division • DDG - Tshediso Matona • Purpose: To develop trade and investment links with key economies globally, and promote economic development, through negotiating preferential trade agreements, supporting a strong and equitable multilateral trading system, and fostering economic integration with the continent within the Nepad framework • Business units: • International trade development • International trade administration • African economic development
the dti structure (4) Consumer and Corporate Regulation Division • DDG - Astrid Ludin • Purpose: To develop and implement coherent, predictable and transparent regulatory solutions that provide access to redress for investors, inventors and consumers and that provide policy coherence and certainty, and efficient regulatory services for business • Business units: • Policy and legislation • Enforcement and compliance • Regulatory services
