Religion Ireland is 87 percent Roman Catholic. St. Patrick's day • St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland and the one credited for bringing Christianity to Ireland. It is celebrated by a morning mass, following that, parades and partying with music and more all day long and into night. For the Irish it is a true day to celebrate and be proud of their country. Drinking is the most common on this day in Ireland as well.
TRADITIONAL RECIPEIrish Roast Pork with Potato Stuffing Ingredients:• 2 pounds pork tenderloin, or 6 to 8 boneless lean pork chops• 2 tablespoons butter• 2 tablespoons hard cider (apple wine) or water• Salt and pepper Stuffing• 4 1/2 cups potatoes, coarsely mashed• 1/4 cup butter• 1 onion• 2 large cooking apples, chopped• 1 handful chopped fresh sage and thyme• Salt and pepper Directions: Make stuffing: To potatoes, add butter, onion, apples, herbs, salt and pepper. Mix well. Rub meat with salt, pepper and butter. Pour cider or water into 3 -quart casserole dish. Place meat along edges of dish. Cover loosely with foil and bake 1 hour at 350 degrees (F).
Blarney Castle and the Blarney Stone • One of Ireland's oldest and most historic castles, and one of the most famous tourist attractions in Ireland, is in County Cork, known as The Blarney Castle and Blarney Stone. The famous Blarney Stone is embedded in the Battlements at the top of Blarney Castle. Legend says that with one kiss the Blarney Stone will bestow the “Gift of the Gab” which is the power to talk your way into or out of any situation. While kissing the Blarney Stone you are looking down to the bottom of the castle. For a regular basis, people meet up at pubs and dance and sing and drink in big groups. They like to party.
