With a focus on place-based learning, multi-sector partnerships, and community-driven priorities, CommUniversity aims to create a strong social capital and build a thriving community. Through various programs and initiatives, CommUniversity promotes public participation, community health, sustainable growth, education, and neighborhood revitalization.

Social Capital, the Foundation of Community Whereas physical capital refers to physical objects and human capital refers to the properties of individuals, social capital refers to connections among individuals – social networks and the norms of reciprocity and trustworthiness that arise from them (Putnam, 2000).
Making Public Participation Work Most form of regulated public participation in the U.S. are ineffective (Innes and Booher, 2004); more collaborative methods may be an alternative solution
Putnam’s argument: • Higher levels of social capital increase civic engagement • Public institutions ‘work better when there exists an independent and long-standing tradition of civic engagement’ (Beem, 1999)
