The Context: New Market Demands Demand is growing for products and services that: • Leverage renewable energy sources • Conserve energy and natural resources • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and pollution • Repurpose waste The drivers of this new business activity include: • Public policy: new standards and incentives • Volatile fuel costs • Conservation efforts as a recession buffer • Growing concern about global climate change

  7. 2. What do we mean by the Green Economy? Included are companies that provide products or services that conserve natural and energy resources, provide clean alternatives, or reduce pollution (e.g. GHG).

  8. 3. Initial Results for Ohio • Green Jobs have outpaced Total Job Growth Between 1995 and 2007: Total Jobs +3% Green Jobs +12% • Since 2005, the strongest green job growth: • Transportation (105%) • Business Services (38%) • Advanced Materials (30%)

  10. Growth in Green Jobs outpaces Total Jobs 1995 to 2007, jobs in green businesses grew 12% while total jobs grew only 3%.

  13. 4. Initial Results for California • Green Jobs have outpaced Total Job Growth Between 1995 and 2007: Total Jobs +10% Green Jobs +15% • Since 2005, the strongest green job growth: • Advanced Materials (28%) • Transportation (23%) • Air & Environment (22%)
