Do’s & Don’ts • Do’s • Use a template • Display the Project Summary • Set the working time & calendar to be equal if possible • Use one calendar • Use milestones for key events • Link all tasks • Baseline the project • Update the Project regularly • Assign resources to all tasks • Use target dates sparingly • Don’ts • Link summaries • Assign resource to summary tasks • Assign more than one resource

  4. The Global.mpt • Stores Personal Standards e.g. • Views • Fields • Tables • Calendars • Maintained using Organiser

Calendars • Tools – Options – Calendar • Saved 1 per project and in the Global.mpt • Tools – Change Working Time • Defines Individual Working Calendars – available on the project on tasks & on resources • Start Time • End Time • Breaks • Non Working Days • Saved in the project (can be copied to global.mpt) • Can have many calendars • Ideally set both to be the same

  7. Task Types • MS Default is Fixed Units, Effort Driven • Default setting is saved in the Global.mpt • Projects & Tasks can be different • Effort Driven • Only available for Fixed Work (Mandatory) & Fixed Units • Changes to units or work drive the assignment duration

  8. Progress Update • Set Status Date • Save an Interim Baseline • Update Task Progress • % Complete (Task related) • % Work Complete (Assignment related) • % Physical Complete • Reschedule uncompleted work • Re-plan
