Course Requirements • 4 English (English 9, English 10, English 11 & English 12) • 4 Math (Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 or higher + 1 math elective) • 4 Science (Biology, and a physical science + 2 science electives) • 4 Social Studies (World History, US History I & II, & Government/ Economics)

Electives • Physical Education (P.E.) = 1 credit (PE, Fitness, Ropes, JROTC, & Marching Band) • Health = .5 credit • Career Preparedness = 1 credit • CTE/Foreign Language/ Arts = 3 credits (CTE: Agriscience; Family & Consumer Science; etc) (Foreign Language: Spanish; French; German) (Fine Arts: Art Visual; Theatre; Vocal; & Band) MOST ELECTIVES REQUIRE A COURSE FEE!!!!

  15. Advanced Diploma Requirement • 12 of the 16 core classes must be designated advanced-level courses, with ALL11th and 12thgrade courses being advanced-level

  16. Grade Classification Grade classification is based on the number of credits a student earns NOT the number of years he or she has attended high school or the expected graduation year.

  17. Testing Requirements • NO MORE ALABAMA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION EXAM (AHSGE) • New Testing Accountability is COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS END OF COURSE TESTS

A “school within a school” • An intense, structured, supportive, academic environment with high student expectations. • The intent is to better transition 8th grade students to the rigorous, academic high school environment by providing them with training of the needed learning skill, mastery of academic foundational standards, and the confidence to be successful.

Parent Communication • Make sure to provide teachers with up-to-date email addresses and phone numbers. • All teachers/ counselors/ administrators can be emailed through the school website. • iNOW Home Portal allows parents to log-in to the database and view current grades, transcripts, attendance and discipline records. See Media Center for log-in information. • Initiate communication with teachers; be your child’s first advocate.

  28. Tips for Surviving High School 1- Remember You Aren’t Alone. 2- Attendance Is Key- Be There! 3- Be Organized. 4- Don’t Procrastinate! 5- Ask questions! 6- Get Involved! Clubs, Sports, Extracurricular Activities, Make the Memories! 7- HAVE FUN- It’s High school!!!!

Registration Forms • Core classes will be decided based on EXPLORE results, current grades, Math placement tests, Global-Scholar data and student choice. • Electives: All Students (tentatively) will be scheduled for CAREER PREPAREDNESS A course • There is no guarantee you will receive your 1st choice of classes!!
