Purpose • To provide information on commercially available weighing systems for aircraft and ground systems.
Background • MCAS Beaufort does not have an in-ground or mobile axle scale. • The nearest scales are located at a truck weigh station in Georgia, approximately 1 hour from the air station. • This squadron currently utilizes individual wheel scales to weigh all equipment, which is a timely process, causing significant delays in the throughput process.
Background • During axles scale testing, a scale site was established, the squadron was able to weigh 25 items of rolling stock and containers significantly faster than the current method. • It took 3 hours from set up to tear down. Using the current method, this would have taken 6-8 hours.
Axle Scale Information • AX900-09 Axle scale • Unit Price: $19,948.50 • 120,000 lbs capacity • Single/Tandem/Triple axles • PT 20 Axle Weigher CPU with cabling/version AX • Unit Price: $3,571.75 • Trailer • Unit Price: $10,989.00 • Manual back-up winch and modified trailer hitch per USMC requirements are included. • Total Package $34,509.25
Aircraft Platform Weighing System • AC30 capacity platform scales • Quantity: 3 • 30,000 lbs capacity • AC-2R two stage ramps • Quantity: 3 • AC-TS tire stops • Quantity: 3 • AC-IC50 power cable (cart to scale) 50 ft each • Quantity: 3 • AC-TC4 transport/storage cart • Quantity: 1
Recommendation • Purchase both the ground axle scale unit and the aircraft platform weighing system. • Total cost: $56,634.25 • Benefit – significantly reduced time invested in process of weighing (accurately) aircraft and ground equipment. POC Capt Griffin DSN 335-8340
