We All Have Appetites • All people need to hear this! • Frequent and demanding. • We die in a few days w/o water. • Some would kill for food, or eat each other. • What about true “soul” food – John 4:32-34 • Strongly desire righteousness • Acts 17:27; John 6:33-35
In Physical or Spiritual Realm • Hungering is a sign of life. • A sign of healthy life. Loss of appetite is a “red flag.” Psa. 42:1-2; 63:1-2 • Christians sometimes avoid God’s Word or God’s people when they need it/them most. • Remember Jesus on the cross – “I thirst.”
What Is “Righteousness?” • “Integrity, virtue, purity of life, uprightness, correctness of thinking, feeling and acting.” (Thayer) • Rom. 6:13; 2 Tim. 2:22 • Not flawlessness. • Noah and Lot were named as righteous. • They were shining lights in a dark world, because they meant to be.
The Blessing Mentioned • Makarios – Happiness of character • We have a physical appetite, but we may curb it. We hear much of eating disorders. • Or malnutrition. So of spiritual appetite – Luke 10:42 • God’s Will gives us the balance we need for spiritual nutrition – Psa. 119:172; 2 Tim. 3:16 • Shall be filled – chortadzo – to fatten cattle
