Objectives • Understand the value and benefits of Cultural Integration • Teach each other about our different cultures • Learn the unique things about each of our cultures that can have an positive impact on the success of this project • Comprehend what old habits, prejudgments it is going to take for us giving up to really implement Cultural Integration • Celebrate diversity!

Group Introductions • Cultural Respect Activity • Find someone in the room who you don’t know, from a different country than you • Introduce yourself to that person • Spend five to ten minutes talking about respect. What does it mean for you to show respect, and what does it mean for you to be shown respect? • After the allotted time, please return to your seats, and open the discussion. What ideas did you come up with? • Once you have discussed your answers, each table come up with two key learnings from the discussion
Cultural Respect Activity You have 10 minutes to formulate your answers. After this, please be ready (you can choose a spokesperson) to share your answers with the other groups.
Cultural Diversity questions • Split up into groups by country and answer the following questions: • What are ten (10) things that you are proud of about your culture/ where you are from?
Cultural Diversity questions • What are five things that somebody can do to be well regarded in your culture/ where you are from? • What are five unique things that are not well regarded in your culture/ where you are from?
Cultural Diversity questions You have 20 minutes to formulate your answers. After this, please be ready (you can choose a spokesperson) to share your answers with the other groups.
Bringing our Cultures Together Bridging Exercise
Bridging Exercise • On the wall there is a poster of a bridge made of stones. • The stones that make up the bridge are strong and have total integrity. • On the floor you can see the discarded stones, these have cracks in them, they have lost their integrity and will not support a solid bridge. • Split up into groups of 10 and come up with 5 answers for the first question on the next slide and 3 answers for the second question. • After you have agreed your answers, reunite with the other groups and insert your answers to question 1 on the stones that make up the solid bridge and the answers to question 2 on the stones discarded on the floor.
Bridging Exercise • What are you willing to contribute (that might take some hard work) in order to respect and celebrate diversity on this project? • What preconceived ideas/ judgments about your new colleagues will you have to give up in order for the pieces of the bridge to fit and make this journey a success?
Bridging Exercise You have 30 minutes to formulate your answers. After this, please be ready (you can choose a spokesperson) to share your answers with the other groups.
