CAPSIL 1. to develop a detailed CAPSIL Roadmap for EU research to achieve effective and sustainable solutions to independent living 2. to support aging research by proposing procedures to incorporate all of these diverse solutions into WiKi entries (CAPSIL WiKi). 3. to use the CAPSIL Roadmap and the CAPSIL Workshops to help policy makers in the US and Japan coordinate research agendas and funding efforts across the three continents.
Uniqueness of TRIL Centre • Integrating 3 Clinical Teams, Ethnography, and the TTP into one team. • Targeting the “three giants” of ageing • Coordinating Academia (3 separate universities) and Intel • Science driving clinical needs driving technology research and development • Immediate testing with cohorts in the clinic and in the field • Scale: expanding the reach of TRIL Centre • Other alliances/groups in the EU • FP7 • US Partners
Needed a Platform for Biomedical Signal Research (with a Focus on Aging Research) • Research in multimodal signal analysis and pattern recognition of real-time bioelectric data • Needed a toolkit for bioengineers and scientists as well as physicians, physiotherapists, and even artists. • Rapid prototyping (agile integration of research applications not development of commercial software)
Example: Agile Integration Fall Detector Goal: Create a fall detector for in home applications. 1 Hr Program And Make GUI 10 Minutes to Program for Fall Algorithm SHIMMER Base with Accelerometer Board EMobius Application 1 Hr Drawn to prototype Plastics Enclosure for Wearable Commercial of the Self (COTS) Aggregator Result: Working, lab validated application using agile integration approach. $35 material cost 2.5 engineering hours. 9 Intel Confidential
EMOBIUS • Requirements • Users / Architecture • Graphical User Interface Designer • Blocks (Biosignal processing) • Documentation • Hardware Interfaces • Demonstration(s)
EMOBIUS – Requirements Multimodal Open-architecture Bio-sensor Interface and User-interaction System Key Considerations: • Straightforward user interfaces • Rapid Development • Biosignal Applications (Real time) • Reduce Development Replication • Encourage Collaboration • Targeting Elders
EMOBIUS – Architecture • Different Requirements to EyesWeb • Several Users Needs • GUI Designer • Blocks (inc signal processing) • Documentation • Hardware platform (input from multiple sources)
EMOBIUS – GUI Designer • Complex Clinical Data acquisition applications • Therapist / Clinicians Users • Home deployment
EMOBIUS – GUI Designer • Standard GUI tools • Static Items (lines, ..) • Controls (sliders, combo box ..) • Outputs (graphs, image, …) • Tabs • Menus • Import Patch • Connect Controls and Outputs to pins
EMOBIUS – GUI Designer • Designer -> XML • PC Runtime • Mobile Runtime • Connects to EyesWeb Kernel (Which can run as service) • Communicates Via IP • Can also record user input to Database
EMOBIUS Blocks • 32+ New Blocks. Hardware I/O, Biosignal, Math
EMOBIUS / EyesWeb Documentation • 23 documents • Focused on EMOBIUS user documentation • Block Development Documentation • Some EyesWeb documentation updates
Sensing • A total of 8 analog inputs: • 3 are always committed to an internal 3-axis accelerometer • 3 are for an internal connector for expansion daughter boards like: Gyro+magnetometer, ECG, GSR • 2 are always available as external inputs
SHIMMER Specifics • Connects via Bluetooth Serial Port Protocol (SPP) interface • Bi-directional • Block creates a thread for serial ReadFile() and WriteFile() - Better service- Sources data to packet parser • Main block thread builds Shimmer packet • Sends received values into Patch
EMOBIUS Availability • EyesWeb – www.eyesweb.org • EMOBIUS V1.0 www.emobius.org • GUI Designer • Blocks • Documentation
EMOBIUS Demonstration • Clap-o-meter
