Example y = f(x) is given by CALC Menu - minimum/maximum • Go to CALC|minimum. • The following calculator screen appears. • Note that: (1) The function is shown at the top left of the screen. (2) An entry for the Left Bound is asked for. This is an x-value to the left of the minimum point. Slide 2
Example y = f(x) is given by CALC Menu - minimum/maximum • Since the relative minimum point appears to be just to the right of the y-axis, select a point that is to the left of the y-axis. This can be done in two different ways. Use only one of the two methods on the next slide. Slide 3

(2) A second method is to type in an x-value that is clearly to the left of the y-axis, say x = -1. Enter -1 and then press ENTER. This is usually much faster. Slide 4

CALC Menu - minimum/maximum Method (2) Method (1) • Note that with either method, there are two arrows above the minimum pointing towards each other. If the x-value of the minimum is not between the arrows, start again with CALC|minimum and redo the bounds. Slide 6
Example y = f(x) is given by CALC Menu - minimum/maximum • The calculator now asks for a “Guess?”. Just press ENTER and the relative minimum point is found to be at approximately (0.29, -4.30). Slide 7
