1. Secret (pages 412-430) Thursday, February 10th, 2005 (Clare is 33, Henry is 41) Clare waits anxiously for Henry to return from time travelling. Henry had travelled back to 1989. Clare torments over whether to tell Henry that she slept with Gomez or keep it a secret. She tells Henry & he seems ok with it. Saturday, April 14th, 1990 (Clare is 18) Clare wakes up after sleeping with Gomez. Gomez tells Clare that she had been calling out Henry’s name in her sleep. Friday, April 27th, 1990 (Henry is 26) Henry is at an Iggy Pop concert with Ingrid. When leaving, Henry is approached by a huge blonde guy who says to him “Clare says hello”. Henry doesn’t know what this means as he hasn’t met Clare yet. Friday, February 18th, 2005 (Henry is 41, Clare is 33) Henry takes Charisse to the opera. After the opera they go for coffee. Charisse tells Henry that Gomez is in love with Clare. Sunday, June 12th, 2005 (Clare is 34, Henry is 41) A seven year old Alba has time travelled from the future and is playing with the present, 3 year old, Alba. This seven year Alba knows that Henry is dead in her present. Henry tells her not to tell Clare of this. Clare has a brief memory of when Henry is shot when she is young.

2. Developments in relationships Henry finds out that Clare has slept with Gomez and that Gomez is in love with Clare. Charisse is worried that Henry will leave & Gomez will end up with Clare. Key Quotes ““I slept with someone.” Henry’s face is frozen, disbelieving.” – page 415 “Henry doesn’t mind. Or does he?“ – page 416 These show that Henry is shocked to hear the news that Clare had slept with Gomez, but tells Clare that he is ok with it. Clare is unsure if he really means this. “Don’t tell Mama I died, okay?” – page 427 Henry is telling a 7 year old Alba not to tell Clare that he dies in the future as he doesn’t want to scare Clare.
