Will this teacher treat me fairly?Yes always!I don’t play favorites because I love all of my students.Some days your definition of “fair” may differ from mine, but it is always with good intentions.
My expectations of each and everyone of you are very high. • Why? Because I believe in you! • You can do it!!! • Hard work and dedication will pay off.
Objetivos de la clase: • Conversación: Students will converse in Spanish. • Interpretación: Students will interpret written and spoken Spanish. • Presentación: Students will present information in Spanish. • Cultura: Students will discover new things about the culture in Spanish speaking regions and countries. • Comparaciones: Students will make comparisons between their own culture and language and those of Spanish speaking countries. • Comunidades: Students will discover how and where Spanish can be used beyond the classroom and beyond this high school setting.
*Recommended Notebook/Folder • 3 subject notebook with perforated pages *OR a 1 ½” binder and loose leaf paper with the following 3 labeled sections: • a) HA (“Hagan Ahora” which means “Do Now”) b) Tarea (Homework) • c) Apuntes (“Notes” section for notes about class instruction, including regarding grammar and culture) • A folder in the subject notebook or binder to hold any handouts. Individual folders are acceptable. • A flash drive/USB
How will I be graded? • You will be graded according to the Franklin High School Grading Policy. 90-100 = A Homework Grading Policy 80-89 =B √+ = 105 → did extra work 70-79 =C √ = 100 → all work was completed 67-69 =D √- = 70 → ½ of the work was completed 66 & Below = F 0 = none of the work was completed
World Language Grading Profile STANDARD Summative Assessment: 75% Formative Assessment: 20% Homework: 5%
Be prepare in your assigned seat and working on the assigned Do Now/ Hagan Ahora. • The Hagan Ahora will remain on the board during the 1st 5 minutes of class. I you are late to class, you can not receive credit for it.
2. Bring all materials to class and take them with you when you leave.
5. Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the Franklin High School handbooks. Including: • Tardy Policy • Dress Code • Cell Phones • No lunch schedules
6. No eating, drinking (with the exception of bottled of water), or SLEEPING in class!
7. Take care of all personal business before coming to class. You need to be in here to be learning!
8. Special Rule • This classroom is a “No Whining Zone”. That means that there will be no whining, for ANY reason. • Everything that I do is in you best interest, so please….. Respect the “No Whining Zone”
9. Guideline Infraction Notice • Read it • Sign it • Keep it until the end of class
Following Guidelines will result in: • Verbal Acknowledgement • A stress free learning environment • A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere.
Not following Guidelines will result in: • 1st - Warning and documentation • 2nd -Action Plan (Infraction Notice), Parental contact, and 45 minute after school detention TUESDAYS ONLY!! • 3rd - Disciplinary Referral
Severe Clause • Any student who uses profanity, fights, bullies, damages schools property (this includes the property of the teacher and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the office IMMEDIATELY
Entering the room • Please enter quietly • Have a seat • Take out your materials • Begin the Hagan Ahora Assignment
2. When you are tardy • Enter quietly • Excused: Place excused pass on my desk. • Unexcused: Signed red binder on top of my desk. • Have a seat and take out materials.
3. Getting your attention: DAME CINCO/GIVE ME FIVE • Eyes on the speaker • Quiet down • Everyone, Freeze! • Hands Free • Listen
4. Speaking Español • You have to give it your all to speak as much Spanish as possible. • Part of your participation and essential in learning a new language.
5. Excusing yourself from class • ¿Puedo tomar agua? → Water • ¿Puedo ir al baño? → Bathroom • ¿Puedo ir a la enfermería? → Nurse -You will not be allowed unless you ask in Spanish. • Any other destination → you should notify me prior to me teaching the lesson.
6. After an excused absence • Please see me at the end of the day to arrange make work. • No make-up work for unexcused absences (cuts) will be given. • Make-up quizzes and tests: Tuesdays B102
7. If class work is finished early • Work on unfinished Spanish assignments • Study your vocabulary • Start working on tonight’s homework
8. Scheduled check out • Please let me know as you enter the classroom. - I will be at the door. • Quietly raise your hand to get my attention. • Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time. • If it is an emergency, quickly get my attention and I will assist you.
9. Classroom Discussions • Please participate • I want to hear what you have to say • Make all questions and comment relevant to the current discussion • If you question is off topic, write it down and ask later.
10. Moving around the room • You must ask permission • Do not ask during a classroom discussion unless it is an emergency.
11. Class Dismissal • The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. • Do not start packing up prior to the bell. • Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with: “Tengan un buen día”
12. “Special” Procedures These will be introduced on an “as needed” basis • Library/Media Center • Language Lab • Special guests • Progress reports • Working Cooperatively • Fire Drill • Intercom Announcements • Assemblies • Substitute Teacher
