From our Discussion • The story has a moral: • The message seems to be directed to the weaker classes: stand up for your rights. • Chekhov’s voice would be to the people reading the story. Who were educated enough to read? • Perhaps the message of the story is directed to the rich class: you are strong because you are in a position of power with money.
