Goals for this week: • Play “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.” (pg. 11, #35) • Record “Twinkle” and add accompaniment. • Who is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart? • Theme and Variations. • “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep.” (pg. 18, #69) • Can you find other songs that are themes and variations? • Compose your own variations.

  3. Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star • Challenge: Using Noteflight, can you compose this song using the 6 notes you know so far? (Clarinet example: C, D, E, F, G, A) • Check your work: pg. 11, #35 • Play along • Challenge: Using GarageBand, can you record yourself playing this piece? • Can you add at least one loop to go along with your recording? Here is an example. • Listen to the recording you made of yourself. What are some things you did well? What are some things you can improve on?

History and Culture • Who was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart? • When did he live? • What musical genre did he belong to? • What are some of his famous pieces? • Find at least 3 recordings of Mozart’s compositions and describe their characteristics. • Have you heard Mozart’s music played anywhere? • How is this music different or similar to music today? • Challenge: Mozart Quiz

Theme and Variations • What is a theme and variations? • Play “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep” (pg. 18, #69) • Hint: This song uses the same notes as “Twinkle”! • Play along • Challenge: Using Noteflight, create at least one more variation for “Baa, Baa, Black Sheep.” Then, using GarageBand, record yourself playing your variation on your instrument. • Challenge: Using the Internet, can you find other songs that use a theme and variations?
