1. SShrishti: Background • Location: Delhi (Kishangarh), started in 2003 • Two main initiatives – Ladli and Learning Center, Formal education Schools • In addition, they have a remedial center + they are running computer centers in Rajasthan, Haryana and UP • Started a door step school in oct’09 • AfE funding this project since 2006, SV started funding in 2009 • We currently fund Learning Center (UKG, I-IV) • 2009-10 Funding: $2000 (Berkeley) + $18380(SV) • Community - families of migrant workers • Families move to find work • Transitioning interrupts the education of children • Kids lose a year or two • Children who start schooling at an older age are put through an accelerated learning program to bring them up to their age level • Total current enrollment = 350 kids (all centers)

2. Annual Update (2009-10) • Shifted to a rented building in Kishangarh, both centers are within walking distance • easier to manage both centers, more space, terrace is being utilized, 6 rooms, no need for transportation • substantial renovation done for the building (e.g. electrical fitting, repairs) • ‘09-’10 Student strength = 86 (Girls: 31, Boys: 55) ; Teachers=6 • Regular classes of spoken English, GK , recitation and music have been introduced • 17 children cleared NIOS examination. They have since got admitted into government schools in class VI • Community outreach program was successful • Had a half marathon fundraiser • Attrition rate was 20 % • Discontinued the vocational training program • Site visits done in Sept 2009 (Megha), Dec 2009 (Pankaj) and Aug 2010 (Anshu)

Evaluation Document (2009-10) Milestones - • Find a local agency to fund the transportation cost • Find a local computer agency to sponsor a teacher for the computer course. • Final alternative source for project coordinator’s salary • This year’s plan is to send 22 children for the NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) examinations • Backup plan in case WWA does not renew the lease How the project did - Moved to rented building – (I) and (V) no longer applicable Salary of computer teacher by local donations for next year Planning to have a fundraiser for the salary of project coordinator* Comments – I personally think that they have done well to meet these milestones. Having both Centers within walking distance is a big plus for the project. It does come at the high cost of rent though. They were able to send 17 kids to Govt school through NIOS. *I need to find out exact details of this local fundraiser.

Evaluation Document (2009-10) Recommendations - • The coordinators will work to find out the funding options of the government such as SarvaShikshaAbhiyaan and follow-up on those. • Social worker will ensure that 20 more new kids will be added to the program How the project did - No efforts has been made in that direction, as the project coordinator was totally preoccupied with administration and education (i) • Plan to have efforts made this year Students were added to Ladli (ii) Comments – Efforts towards SSA or RTE are rather weak. I have tried many times in past to convince them to put some resources on this but didn’t have much success. It has more to do with the poor impression of govt schemes.

Anshu’s Site Visit Notes • Visited SShrishti Centers in Aug (surprise visit) • Orientation program for teachers on the first day • Scope of SShristi and Teaching methods discussed • Attendance - 20-25 • Visited classrooms, talked to kids • Kids came up to him to speak, showed lot of confidence, could speak in english • Discussions next day about centers, RTI, RTE, attendance of kids, follow-ups etc.
