Teaching the Dimensions • The aim of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Physical Education program is to enable individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. • This is achieved through teaching all five dimensions of the Physical Education curriculum.   5. Why is Variety Important? • Participating in a variety of activities can: • Create lifelong engagement • Create positive life skills • Help children develop an appreciation for multiple sets of norms • Foster healthy identity Cote, J et al. (2009). Ever Active Schools: Physical Literacy

  6. Five Dimensions of Activity • Alberta curriculum has identified 5 dimensions of activity • Alternative Environments • Dance • Types of Gymnastics • Games • Individual activities Ever Active Schools: Physical Literacy

  7. Alternative Environments Students participate in a variety of land or water based activities in alternative environments The selection of activities will depend on the climate, resources and facilities available Ever Active Schools: Physical Literacy
