  1. SMart Faire Walnut 6th Grade

  2. What is SMart Faire? • The SMart Faire is the culminating activity of your experience as a Walnut student • You will become the teacher • SMart stands for Science, Math, and Art

  3. Logistics • You will work in a group of four called a Quad • Your Quad will consist of two Discovery Students and two Renaissance students • Your Quad has already been selected for you • Your Quad will research your topic for instruction and create a lesson plan to teach to younger students on our campus

  4. Requirements You will submit the following: • Research Report • Lesson Plan • Budget • Lesson Delivery Plan

  5. Stages of the Project

  6. Google Drive You will learn how to: • Access Google Drive • Create a document • Share documents

  7. Research You will learn how to: • Generate research questions • Conduct appropriate internet-based research • Determine the validity of a website • Determine the amount of research necessary to learn about a topic

  8. Research Report You will learn how to: • Organize questions and research into a coherent report • Create a bibliography • Write in the 3rd person • Create a fact based document

  9. Lesson Planning You will learn how to: • Write an objective • Create a materials list • Write a lesson for information to be taught • Create an activity for the learners to participate in

  10. Budget You will learn how to: • Estimate the total number of participants • Estimate the amount of materials needed • Research the materials to be purchased • Determine the total cost of the project

  11. Lesson Delivery You will learn how to: • Determine the strengths of each group member • Assign roles for the days of the event • Create a schedule and stick to it

  12. Lesson Presentation You will learn how to: • Use a strong voice • Use eye contact • Use good posture • Engage an audience

  13. Quad Job Descriptions Each member of your Quad will be given a role. These jobs are as follows: • Project Manager: Responsible for all member of the group and all deliverables. • Secretary: Responsible for all writing activities and the quality of all work submitted. • Accountant: Responsible for the budget creation and submission. • Technology Consultant: Responsible for all elements involving technology.

  14. Expectations and Responsibilities During this project, the following will be expected of you: • Excellent, on-task behavior at all times • Supportive collaboration within your Quad and beyond • Completion of all tasks on or before the due date
