  2. What is an LED? LED stands for 'Light Emitting Diode', a semiconductor device that converts electricity into light.

  3. LED: How It Works

  4. If current flows through a diode negative electrons pass one way and positive holes move the other way.

  5. The holes exist at a lower energy level than the free electrons therefore when a free electron falls it wastes energy.

  6. This energy is emitted in a form of a photon, which causes light.
