Empowering Youth: Progress Programme in Coventry & Warwickshire

The Five-Year Programme of Support for Young People aims to assist 1,400 individuals in progressing into education, training, or employment. Results include increased confidence, employability skills development, and improved wellbeing for disadvantaged youth aged 15-24 in the Coventry & Warwickshire region. The personalized coaching, intensive support, and tailored approaches help young people overcome barriers to achieve their goals. Evaluation shows significant positive outcomes, with the majority of participants expressing improved confidence, health, and employment prospects. Five year (2016-2022) programme of support for young people • Results: • Progress into education or training • Progress into employment • Seeking employment/ progression 1,400 young people across Coventry & Warwickshire • Outcomes: • Increased confidence, and self-esteem • Develop positive attitudes towards employment • Develop personal, social, and employability skills • Support improved (health and) wellbeing Support to progress into or towards employment Targeted support for NEET/ at risk/ inactive

  2. For young people who… • are 15-24 years old • are NEET/ at risk/ unemployed/ inactive • live in Coventry/ Warwickshire • are eligible for ESF funding • are most disadvantaged/ need additional support

DESIGNED FOR YOUNG PEOPLE • Coaching – Youth work approach • Tailored – enrichment through specialists • Mobile and accessible • Key worker model – joining dots, advocating • Intensive – relationship based, small caseloads • Progression focused – education, employment • Support fund – travel, clothing etc

EVALUATION • TARGETED • Participants face a wide range of barriers: • Self-reported disabilities • Mental health issues • Risk of homelessness • Caring responsibilities • Family breakdown • TAILORED • Participants value: • Having someone to talk to • Improving mental health • Building confidence & self-esteem • Improving qualifications, communications and social skills

  8. “The work I have done through Progress has made me a good person. I am very motivated and far more confident... I am becoming more independent and planning for the future. “The project is the best thing that has ever happened to me. It has made a huge difference in my life.” 80% OF PARTICIPANTS FEEL MORE CONFIDENT ‘T’ was referred to Progress by the Police following an arrest for suspicion of robbery.

  9. 72% OF PARTICIPANTS REPORT IMPROVED HEALTH & WELLBEING “Before I started on Progress I couldn’t leave the house. I was very depressed, and my family were very worried about me. The support I have received from my Coach has helped me far more than I thought it would.”

  10. 81% OF PARTICIPANTS FEEL MORE POSITIVE ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS “I’m back in regular employment, doing a job I love…My family can see an improvement in me, and life is a lot better…I couldn’t have done this without the help I have received from Progress.”

  11. “I love my job…I love the fact that I earn my own money now. To me this feels like I am living my life like an adult. None of this would be possible without the support I got from Progress” 71% OF PARTICIPANTS REPORT IMPROVED JOB SEARCH SKILLS
