  2. Location • Located in Mesa County on the Western Slope. • Fruita is part of Grand Junction, Colorado.

  3. History • Fruitawas founded by William E. Pabor on May 1, 1884 because he recognized the agricultural potential for growing produce. • Fruitahas grown steadily for over a century with many of the descendants of the original settlers still living there. • The first family to settle in Fruitawas the Albert Lapham family.

  4. Important Places • The Colorado River runs near the town of Fruita. • The Colorado National Monument is located just outside of the town.

  5. Recreation • Fruita’s many geological formations and trails, make it the perfect place to ride your mountain bike or hike. • Leisure or heart-pounding river raft trips are available. • Downtown walking tours of 16 historical buildings. • A must see attraction is the statue of Mike the Headless Wonder Chicken.
