In what ways does your media product use, or develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? • My media products uses develop, challenges forms and convention of real media products in a variety of ways and also subverts in particular ways. In my poster I have followed some conventions from other poster productions, such has having the masthead at the top over the image to justify it being a film poster. This will be the first thing that viewers pay attention to because they want to know the name of film. • I had also used credits which is situated at the bottom of the poster in small font, but bold white writing for it to be readable to the public eye. • Also the main character of my film trailer is the main image on my poster which other film poster usually have, thus further justifying the use of forms and conventions I have used. Usually the main character is the marketing tool because they are usually A- list World worldwide movie actors/actress which will make the viewers want to watch the film due to popularity, but my poster has subverted from that because I have just used unknown actors. • Most Teen – Rom- Com posters usually comply to the white background , which could connote to the sense of purity or innocence and may be child like behaviour, but I have subverted from this because I felt it made my magazine look incomplete and also the fact that my magazine is based on a boy, which the blue background connotes.
In what ways does your media product use, or develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? • I have also conformed to Teen Rom Com movies by having a main ‘geek’ character and having several ‘jocks’ with a pretty girl to the left who they have a liking to. So my poster has conformed to this so the viewers can straight away recognize what type of film genre the film is in. • During the development of my media final product I had done a lot of research and planning, in order to help my give a deeper insight of film posters and to know what key conventions are essential in film posters. • The way I managed to know research of my key genre (Teen Rom Com) was by surfing through the internet , looking at film magazine and just simply looking around in the outside world to see how different film posters are presented.
Forms and Conventions for my film magazine • As for my poster I have also borrowed from other conventions such as having the masthead placed at the top of the magazine. Where most film magazines situate there masthead. I feel that having the masthead at the top is advantage for the industry because it is the first things the readers will look at, but by having the masthead place anywhere it unlikely that the readers will be familiar with the magazine name. • The use of sell lines is also situated at the right and left hand side of the page in smaller fonts, following yet again forms and conventions. This is done to keep the readers informed about what is going around in the media today and to catch the readers interest. This is used as a marketing tool. • I have also try use short text in my sell lines and simplistic languages so my magazine can by aimed at different ranges of target groups and to also make my magazine look more realistic. • Usually in film magazines they use cast from the main film they are trying to promote, which I have done in my poster with them where they are wearing costumes from the film. • Other than promoting my film trailer, film magazines usually help promote other new films which I have done in my magazine.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? My main product and ancillary texts was very effective in combination. The characters that are presented in both film poster and film trailer makes the combination very effective. Which shows that I have planned my characters that I was going to use in film trailer. The use of uniform is also used in both poster and trailer which also very useful and effective which is gives a hint that the trailer will be based in school/college which is evident in the film trailer.
What have you learned from your audience feedback? Film Poster: Received good audience feedback for its use of simplicity and professional looking conventions. What was really noticed is that the a prefect badge was placed in between the title of prefect which looked very professional. Which creates a feeling of students and may be teenage behaviour this also makes the poster eye catching which makes the poster very effective. A feedback commented that I received was that the credits did not look to professional because the way it was placed at the bottom of the poster. So I had tried to improve this by changing the font of the credits and spreading the text across the bottom of the poster
What have you learned from your audience feedback? Magazine: I received good feedback for my magazine and the main image and the colour scheme and style , is related to a Teen comedy genre . Moreover another feedback commented about the main image that it was not clear and sharp enough to see which could make my magazine look very unprofessional. So I tried to approach this problem by getting another image of the boys which was more visible and clearer to see.
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Research:MS Word to produce questionnaires. It was also used for collecting images of film poster to gives us ideas about Teen – Rom – Com posters and was used for comparing and analysing posters. MS Excel to create bar-charts to collect feedback from target audience, Planning: Planning was done by using pen, pencil and paper sketches of brief ideas of my poster and film magazine which were later created on a computer software. Construction: Construction was done on Adobe Photoshop which allows to use more developed tools such as a control over tiny and large scale image details quickly and effective. Which made my productions look more professional. Evaluation: Evaluation was done on MS Power Point to explain construction and the feedbacks of my media products.
Film Trailer The film trailer we did as a group we worked as a team to record the clips we needed in order to make a start it took us a bit of time before we got it together but we filmed a number of scenes and removed what we felt was irrelevant or was jus a waste of time there were a few scenes which needed to be done which we didn’t get round to doing for various reasons but we found a way without it being a issue. The scenes were then edited we used one of the people in our groups software to be able to do this and put the scenes together to form our trailer. I feel that in terms of team work are group could have done a lot better I feel there were times some group members were left out and were not included in some of the things that were vital I don’t think the idea of team was taken on board , I feel that there were member s in my group who knew that this would not be a problem for them so did as they pleased they were very laid back as they knew they could do it this task was not a problem for them whereas for other group members it wasn’t the same so for this reason I feel that we should have worked more as a team not just only person doing all the work when they feel like it putting the rest of worked up because we don’t have a clue of what is going on. Other than this I feel the trailer is very good in some cases could be better …
