Why Change? • In school working on creativity, active learning, pupil choice, enjoyment and motivation - want to have this in home learning too • Life long learners • Positive experience for pupils and parents. • Life/work balance
Parent Voice 58% said the amount of homework was about right 12% said there was slightly too much 12.8% said there was too much Remaining parents said there was too little Parents saidmaths, spelling and reading were important aspects of homework
Parent Voice • Parents said homework was useful, as it enabled them to see what was being learned in school and to consolidate learning • Parents said it was important but questioned did it need to be so often
Pupil Voice • Pupils said maths, research and craft and design were most popular areas • 58.3 % said the amount of homework was just right • 41.7% said it was too much
Staff Voice • Would you consider allowing pupils to choose their own homework? • 13.3% almost always • 86.7% Sometimes - child led learning important. • Do you believe homework fosters a love of learning? • yes 13.3% • No 46.7% • Not sure 40%
Numeracy • Numeracy – focus on mental agility – with termly whole school focus • Term 1 - number bonds and or times tables • Terms 2+3 – numeracy packs as focus • Term 4 – life skills such as time and money
Reading • P4-7 reading overviews • Promote reading for enjoyment • Continued focus on reading P1-3 • P1-3 pupils have reading record book or reading sheets for information for parents
Spelling P1, 2 & 3 Jolly Phonics / Jolly Grammar P4-7 Nelson Spelling – pattern per week or common words Spelling games booklet Coming soon a Parents/Carers Guide to spelling
Health and Wellbeing • Overviews – roughly one activity per fortnight • Same items appear in different year groups • Expectations are different • Useful if you have more than one child - all can do the same home learning activity
Research / Technology • One technology project (What about resources?) • Individual class talk • Child led learning
What now? • Teachers will still provide weekly guidance. • Communication between parents and teachers. • Guidance on website for the whole of home learning.
