Services to Banks, by the Fed • The Fed helps make banking services at your local bank easier in 2 ways: • Check clearing – Keeps track of the 30 billion checks written by Americans each year by crediting or debiting each banks reserves. • Loans to Banks – the Fed serves as the “lender of last resort” to local banks in need.
The Fed’s role in U.S. Treasury • Serving as the government’s bank • Supervising the Fed’s member banks • Regulating the national money supply
