HENRI MATISSE HISTORY • Born in 1869. • Initially trained as a lawyer. • Interest in art started at age 21. • Studied the works of Manet, Cezanne, and Seurat. • Died in 1954. INSPERATION Henri Matisse uses intense color capturing the subject mater of nature, with expressive emotional depth, and structuring his painting in space stroke by stroke. He abolishes shadows, disregards perspective, and transformed the distinction between line and color.
PAUL CEZANNE HISTORY • Born in Aix-en Provence, 1839. • Considered the father of modern art. • Categorized as a Post-Impressionist. • Studied in Paris, learning classical themes. • Died in 1906. INSPIRATION Cezanne builds form up with color and is inspired by nature. He uses dark colors and executes specific brush strokes. He renders shadows without the use of light or shadow but uses gradation of color
ANDY WARHOL HISTORY • Born August 6, 1928. • Created blotted line technique. • Created ads for companies like I. Miller and Tiffany & Co. • One of the founders of Pop Art • Died February 22, 1987. INSPIRATION Warhol uses high contrast color paintings and silk- screen prints, he uses hard edged color shapes to express emotion and ideas.
PABLO PICASSO HISTORY • Born in Malaga October 25, 1881. • Experimented with painting, sculpture and • becoming involved with the surrealist • movement. • Cubism. • Died on April 8, 1973. INSPIRATION Picasso experimented with dark colors and light colors. He embraced other styles and techniques to create his own style like Cubism. Picasso plays with changes in perspective, Geometric forms, and foreshortening.
