Shay No. 3249 was constructed January 22, 1924 by Lima Locomotive Works and had a succession of owners. • The LongBell Lumber Company, it’s 6th owner, purchased the Shay in 1947. • LongBell donated the locomotive to the City of Longview in 1956 and it was placed on the grounds of the Longview Public Library. • After years of being exposed to the elements, in 1997 John Chilson & Jeff Wilson began to disassemble the locomotive for restoration. • In 1999 the Shay was moved to the restoration site at the Chilson residence. • History of Longview’s Shay Shay locomotive
