Fiber Optic Transmitter Electrical Department
Performance Against Goals • Goal: To assemble and build a working Fiber Optic Transmitter. • To work as a team. • Complete assigned activity’s on schedule. • Actual performance towards goal: • With team work the assigned activity’s were successfully completed and turned in on schedule.
Key activity’s to be completed • The Fiber Optic Transmitter Project took 15 weeks to complete. • Each week a different activity was assigned to be completed. • Each team member would contribute to the completion of that weeks activity.
Key Milestone’s • Week One: • Introduction to PCB Layout: • Class discussed software choice’s for project ( Smart works or CAD) • Week Two: • Assigned Teams and project • Selected Team Members Eric Vega, Dana Roscoe, Bill Leinauer, Derek Beck
Key Milestone’s • Week Three: • Introduction to PC Layout 23000. • Using Smart works to complete this activity. • Familiarize ourselves with the software. • Breadboard transmitter
Key Milestone’s • Week Four, Five and Six. • Hand draw schematic wiring diagram on .2 grid paper • Compare each team members schematics. • Least jumpers • Size of proposed PC board. • Location of components. • Redraw selected and improved design on Electronic Workbench.
Key Milestone’s • Week Seven • PCB Layout on Smart works • 2X Plot on B size vellum
Key Milestone’s • Week Eight ( A critical part of project) • Compare Electronic Workbench schematic to completed smart work schematic. • Check for right chips, designators, leads and proper wiring. • Color each connection with different colors to ensure correct connections.
Key milestone’s • Week Nine • After making sure all connections are correct, duplicate schematic onto smart works. • Plot actual schematic on Mylar. • Mylar will be used to etch PC board.
Key Milestone’s • Week Ten • Use Excel to make a parts list • Must include all required materials . • Reference designators, part and description, quantity, identification number, value, tolerance and ratings.
Key Milestones • Week 11 • Complete a drill plan. • Use Excel to designate a symbol for each drill size. • List the amount of holes needed for each drill size. • Indicate location on smart work diagram.
Key Milestones • Week 12 • Etch board • Drill pads • Decide type of enclosure for project
Key Milestones • Week 13 • Soldering devices and jumpers.
Key Milestones • Week 14 • Troubleshooting and final checks
Fiber Optic Transmitter Receives parallel data from prolog and sends it over fiber in a serial form to the receiver. By using fiber the transmit rate is limited by the devices at both ends. Finished Product
