GBX Project Description • 780-mile overhead, DC transmission line delivering wind energy from western Kansas to utilities and customers in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and neighboring states; • 4,000 megawatts of low-cost, renewable power and enough clean energy for 1.6 million homes per year; • Create thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of permanent jobs to maintain and operate the wind farms and transmission line; • Estimated $2.3 billion development and construction investment that will enable approximately $7 billion of new, renewable energy projects to be built; • Providing a long-term source of income for rural communities that host the line. • Grain Belt Express is a participant-funded, merchant model project. Its construction will be paid for by the renewable energy generators and load serving entities that purchase transmission capacity on the line.

HB1062 • Introduced by Rep. Hansen, District 40 • (1) Private entities shall not have the power of eminent domain under the provisions of this section for the purposes of constructing above-ground merchant lines. • (2) For the purpose of this subsection, the following terms mean: (a) "Merchant line", a high-voltage direct current electric transmission line which does not provide for the erection of electric substations at intervals of less than fifty miles, which substations are necessary to accommodate both the purchase and sale to persons located in this state of electricity generated or transmitted by the private entity; and (b) "Private entity", a utility company that does not provide service to end-use customers or provide retail service in Missouri, regardless of whether it has received a certificate of convenience and necessity from the public service commission under section 393.170.
