  1. Examples of elective courses selected by students with more Physical or Biological Interests Common Set of 11 required courses (6 intro, 4 inter and 1 adv. level) followed by 3 of the following electives • Physical Track for example • Choose 3 electives (at least one bio) from: • Math 13: Multivariable • Math 14: Math Modeling • Math 20: Diff. Equations • CoSc11: Intro to CS I • CoSc12: Intro to CS II • Biol32 Evol. Biology • Biol 35 Neurobiology • Biol 37 Structural Biology • Phys 27 Met. Theo. Phys • Phys 43 Dynamics • Biological Track • for example • Choose 3 electives (at least one bio.) from: • Biol 22 Dev. Biol. • Biol 24 Genetic Analyses • Biol25 Mol. Genetics • Biol. 27 Genome Biology • Biol 29 Cell Struc/Func • Biol 27 Genome Biology • Biol 32 Evolution Biol. • Biol33 Immunology • Biol 35 Neurobiology • Biol 37 Struc. Biology • Chem22 Organic II • Math 14: Math Modeling • CoSc11: Intro to CS

  2. Potential Course Selections for Students • Semester by semester course elections for students with various pre-collegiate backgrounds in math and science. • Each profile is imagined WITH a thesis. Not electing thesis work would, of course, reduce by three the number of science courses elected. • Students with the weakest pre-collegiate backgrounds electing to do a thesis would take 11 courses outside the sciences (not counting First Year Seminar) during their four years at Amherst College. • Students with the strongest pre-collegiate backgrounds electing to do a thesis would take 14 courses outside the sciences during their four years at Amherst College. • We note some semester irregularities exist – Bio 25 - Mol Gen and Phys 23 – Mechanics are typically offered in the Fall and we have sometimes listed them here in the spring. This is meant as a general suggestion, modifications are sure to follow.
