  6. What information is helpful prior to EMS arrival on scene? • What are passersby telling the 911 call takers? • Number of vehicles? • Type of vehicles? • Obvious injuries…ejections, pin-ins, etc. • “Exact” location!!!! Mile marker indicators

  7. Respond in a careful and safe manner Park in a defensive position Respect each others roles and responsibilities Always do what is best for the patient(s)…no short cuts! TEAMWORK! EMS Role in Responding

  8. Rural or Urban

  10. Primary Roadways

  11. Sometimes, even railroads have stopped traffic!

  12. What safety issues concern us? • Making sure proper techniques are used • Safety equipment is used properly • Reflective vests • PPE…masks, tyvek

  13. Additional Resources • Huron Valley Ambulance has… • A Tactical EMS Team (SWAT Medics) • A HazMat Medical Response Team • A Technical Response Medical Team • A 40 foot Mobile Operations Center • Check with your local EMS Agency to see what additional resources they may be able to share with you

  15. Who is in charge? • Michigan State law dictates who is in charge of a scene and who is in charge of patient(s). The proper use of the Incident Command system usually negates any need for “turf wars”. It all boils down to the ability to be a part of a… TEAM!
