CSE 3 Fluency with Information Technology (FIT) Adventures in Computational Thinking By Michelle Kyong Making Information Available to the World with HTML and Web Pages Dynamic Webpage Programming with JavaScript Desktop Publishing with MS Word Data Analysis and Visualization with MS Excel Presentation of Information with MS PowerPoint Visual Programming with Alice Computational Thinking In labs 1 and 3, we learned how to use html to make webpages. We used different tags and codes to create different fonts and headings. We also created tables onto the webpage. Using the Google image, we were able to link to the Google homepage. In Lab 5, we learned how to use Microsoft Power Point to transfer our data from the spreadsheet onto a slideshow. We learned how to use the different themes and colors to create our slideshows and used creative transitions to each chart, title, and slide. Information Technology fluency includes proficiency with certain computer applications, principles on which you can build new understanding, high-level reasoning and problem solving, and basic web programming using HTML/XHTML. In Labs 4 and 5, we used Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to input different company names and numbers for their stock performances. We learned how to use the autosum feature and made different charts, such as a pie chart and a bar graph to visually see the data inputed. In Labs 6 and 7, we used the program Alice to create our own worlds and to learn the different functions to make short clips of our creations. In Alice, there are different events, worlds, methods, and properties. We learned how to manipulate the parts of the frogs in the pond and change the time of the clock using the second, minute, and hour hands. In Lab 2, we learned the different features within Microsoft Word. The features we used included text wrapping, footnotes, bullets, using shapes and colors, and inserting text boxes. It was interesting to make a table of contents for the entire page. In Lab 8, we used different variables to keep track of the user inputs and the outputs. We used the html skeleton and then used the variable tags. For each question, we used the “else/if statements” to create different outputs according to the user’s inputs.
