ORiNOCO RG-based LANsa definition A wireless local area network meant for use at home and small office, centered around a Residential Gateway and using ORiNOCO wireless systems in laptop and desktop computers Such a LAN includes: • One ORiNOCO RG-1000 or RG-1100: The access point that handles the communications for ORiNOCO client devices • One or more laptop computers equipped with ORiNOCO PC Cards • One or more desktop computers equipped with ORiNOCO PCI or ISA adapters • One or more Ethernet clients front-ended with an ORiNOCO Ethernet converter

Client software ORiNOCO Client Manager • When started Client Manager displays itself by Icon on the task bar, indicating RF status: • Color • Number of columns • Right-click on icon presents Client Manger menu • Starting the client manager • Selecting/changing a profile • Asking for version data
Client software ORiNOCO Client Manager Includes following utilities: • Diagnose Card • Link Test (Point to Point Diagnostics) • Site Monitor (not in independent network configurations)
Client software ORiNOCO RG Profile Manager • For use with RG1000 only • Tool to create, maintain and select ISP profile definitions • Selected from task bar (telephone icon) • Allows selection of ISP from profile list without re-configuring the RG-1000 • Can hold up to 99 different definitions • Provides access to modem log for diagnostic purposes (via help function)
ORiNOCO RG features • MAC level transparent bridge wireless / Ethernet • 802.11 WiFi / 802.3 • Configuration / Management via SNMP over UPD/IP • Read / write configuration data • Syslog messaging for modem status changes • DHCP functions • DHCP Server function for Local Network to provide IP addresses to clients on local network • Client function for networks with existing DHCP server, to set the IP address of the Residential Gateway in the range of the network • Security Features • Wired Equivalent Privacy, WEP 64bit (RG-1000) or 128 bit (RG-1100) encryption algorithm
ORiNOCO RG features • NAT Routing • Network Address Translation for modem link • Translation of IP addresses from local network to ISP network address • VPN Passthru • Allowing clients, associated to an RG1000/RG-1100 to establish a VPN tunnel through the RG and still use NAT • PPP protocol initiation for communication to ISP • Translation from IP to PPP protocol, to communicate with the Internet Service Provider • Automatic call setup and Modem disconnect (RG-1000 only) • PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) to allow sharing of Internet when connected via DSL or Cable modem • Network separation • Network name uses unique RG-Identifier to avoid unwanted association of client stations to the wrong RG
