Ministerial Conference on International Transport Security • Date: January 11-13, 2006 • Place: Tokyo, Japan • Participating countries, region and organizations: • APEC economies (Australia, Canada, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Russia, Korea, Singapore, USA and Japan) • G8 countries ( France, Germany, Italy and UK) • EC, ICAO,IMO and WCO

  4. Outline of Ministerial Declaration • Taking every practicable measure to prevent terrorist acts against transport systems • Valuing very highly the significant efforts of international organizations • Giving high priority to addressing remaining vulnerabilities

  5. Outline of Ministerial Declaration • Paying special attention to capacity building assistance • Affirming compatibility between security measures and facilitation of the flow of people and goods • Encouraging all States to join us in taking steps to enhance transport security worldwide

International Working Group on Land Transport Security (IWGLTS) • 1st IWGLTS 1st IWGLTS was hosted on April 12th and 13th in Paris, by the French Government • 2nd and 3rd IWGLTSJapan will host the second and the third meetings of IWGLTS in the middle of coming October and first half of next year • Objectives • Sharing of best practices • Enhancing cooperation in passenger rail and transit security • Building on the results of the existing work

International Working Group on Land Transport Security (IWGLTS) • Ongoing themes being focused in IWGLTS • Surveillance • Screening methods • Raising public awareness (Japan leads) • Security partnership between the operators and the authorities etc. • Expected outcomes • Japan considers developing the first set of best practices at the first half of 2008
