  1. An Experiment with theBACKPACK LAB™by Hanna Instruments

  2. OBJECTIVES • To demonstrate the use of the Hanna Backpack Lab™ in testing various water sources in Illinois. • To present notes and show results from the experiment to exhibit the capabilities of the Backpack Lab™. • To help provide ideas for versatility of use.

  3. SAMPLE LOCATIONS / TYPES • Calumet-Sag Channel • Maple Lake Forest Preserve • Lake Michigan • Tap Water (Frankfurt, IL) • Softened Water • Reverse Osmosis

  4. Water Quality Backpack Lab™ Contains: • Backpack for all items needed for testing. • Key terms for water quality testing. • Laminated field test procedure for each parameter. • Much more…

  5. Acidity Alkalinity Carbon Dioxide Conductivity (EC) Dissolved Oxygen Hardness Nitrate Phosphate Temperature Total Dissolved Solids Turbidity TEST PARAMETERS MEASURED / AVAILABLE

  6. Notes from Cal-Sag Collection Site • Site located in Cook County at SEPA facility in Worth, IL at approximately 117th and Harlem Ave. • Samples collected at 3:30 p.m. on 3/23/03. • Sunny • No wind • Air temperature was 64°F • Water flowing 0.25 ft/sec • Very turbid.

  7. Notes from Maple LakeCollection Site • Site located in the Cook County Forest Preserves at 95th Street and Wolf Road. • Samples collected at 4:30 p.m. on 3/23/03. • No wind • Air temperature was 64°F • Water was calm and had no flow. • Extremely clear
