  2. Introduction • The game consists of 3 aspects: • Bidding • Play • Scoring • Initially we will be concentrating on Bidding

  3. Bidding • System to be taught is ACOL. • Evaluation of hand. • Principles of bidding. • Difference between major & minor suits. • No trump contracts. • The spade suit – the king of all suits.

  4. Bidding • Important points about bidding: • 8 card suit fits. • Bidding game with 25 or more points. • Selecting opening bids. • Always open 1NT first. • Open suit if 1NT can not be opened.

  5. Priority of contracts • Playing majors first priority. • Playing No trumps second priority. • Playing minors third priority.

  6. Rules for opening 1NT • EXACTLY 12-14 points. • No trump distribution or balanced. • 4333. • 4432. • 5332 – 5 cards minor. • 5 cards major – open 1 of major.

  7. Opening Bids • Always open 1NT if possible. • Suit openings: • Longest suit first. • Two 5 cards suits - higher suit first. • Two 4 cards suits – lower suit first. • Three 4 cards suits – middle suit first.
