Your Child’s Day 8:45 – 8:55 – Welcome (parents can stay and support their child settle) 8:55 – Registration Bell / Explorer Time / Maths Anchor Task (small groups) 10.00- Maths (Whole class) 10:20 – Snack and play 10:40 – Phonics focus (Whole class) 11.15- Explorer time 11:45 – Story time 12:00 – Lunch 1:00 – Registration and story to introduce the afternoon session. 1.20: Explorer time/afternoon activities 2:30 – Story 2:55 – Assembly 3:15 – Home time

  4. The Early Years Foundation Stage Framework Children learn by playing and exploring, being active and through creative and critical thinking which takes place indoors and outdoors. There are 7 areas of development each with sub-areas totalling 17 Early Learning Goals. The children will be assessed on the Early Learning Goals of each area at the end of the year and will be shared with parents in the end of year report. Assessments will be judged as ‘emerging’, ‘expected’ and ‘exceeding’.

  5. 3 Prime Areas 3 Prime areas: most essential for the child’s healthy development and for their future learning Personal, social and emotional development (self Confidence and self awareness, Managing feelings and behaviour and making relationships) Physical Development (moving and handling and health and self care) Communication and Language (attention, understanding and speaking)

  6. 4 Specific Learning Areas The children will develop skills in specific areas: Literacy (reading and writing) Mathematics (numbers, shapes, space and measures) Understanding the World (people and communities, the world and technology) Expressive Arts and Designs (exploring and using media and materials and being imaginative)

  7. Phonics Read, Write Inc – Phonics information evening dates TBC The children will begin to learn their phonemes (sounds that the letters make) in September. They will bring home ‘homework’ which will show you what we have been learning and how to say the sound. After the children have learnt their first set of sounds and are able to blend they will begin to bring home red ‘ditty’ books to share with you at home. They will also bring home reading books to share with you every night. These will be changed once a week. Please take some time to share the books with your child, read to them and when appropriate hear them read: even if it is only for 5 minutes.

  8. Assessments We will make assessments through the year to check how your child is progressing and what the next steps are in their learning We use ‘Interactive Learning Diary’ to take observations and will share these with you at the end of the year with their report.
