In mid-July, with the Hotel Booking Representatives Association [HBAA] informing at least 30% of those working in meetings and conferences lost their jobs by August, the Association of Event Organizers [AEO] disclosed that at least 20% of the retrospective workforce had already been made terminated. Fast forward another quarter and the UK is now fighting a with the COVID-19 epidemic and causing a national lockdown. Despite promotions such as #WeMakeEvents calling on the Government for the actions industry to offer additional support, the question persists as to how the sector will persist.

THE ‘NEW NORMAL’ Long commutes, extensive travel between meetings, and the office culture are vague memories, for millions of businesses, with workers now functioning at all with the assistance of video conferencing devices, like Zoom. For many, this essential workspace has become the ‘new normal’ and spills over into both individual and skilled life as people become progressively more used to meeting and participating with others online.
