WLAN Selection Criteria • Select the right standard and protect your investment: 802.11 a/b/g • Stable and able to work even in non-air conditioned environment • Good Performance for support of large numbers of simultaneous clients • Enough capacity and power for future upgrade • Good wireless coverage, enough radio output power and able to add external antenna • Powerful security • e.g. WPA2/IEEE 802.11i and proactive rogue AP and client detection • Support multiple VLAN • Quality of service for voice and video applications • IEEE 802.11e • Simple to deploy • e.g. Automatic channel selection, transmit power control for cell sizing • e.g. Support IEEE 802.3af POE • Centralized configuration and monitoring • Support WDS in case cable laying is not possible

Vendor Selection Criteria • Reputable and healthy financial background • Ability to provide total and turnkey solution • In business in the community for years • Depth of know how (both wireless/RF technology and education) • Employee Profiles • Size of Customer and References • Provide future upgrade path • Ensure it provide direct local service • Know the warranty period, warranty type, term and the rate • Provide good hotline support, speedy remote support and • Price and quality of the Site Survey/proposal/presentation material

Tips for the quotation • Ask for a site visit and survey before quote • Give your detail expectation on the use and coverage and should provide your detail floor plan • Breakdown the cost into hardware, software, cabling, training and implementation • Preferable to ask them quote brand reliable name: Don’t let’s them fail you at critical time • Start to compare rate and negotiating • Compare between Quotation apple to apple

Tips for the quotation • Don’t just based on cost but also give score based on other selection factor • If there is big cost difference, discuss to make sure your understand them • Is your selected proposal meet your budget? Share with them at this point. But be realistic, “you get what you apy for”. • Ask for hidden or running cost. Best if they can provide you 3 years TCO.
