Oceanographic cruises TRANSMED
Satellite Datasets used LEVEL 1B, 2 (single swaths): MODIS (SST and OC) SeaWiFS (OC) LEVEL 3 maps: AVHRR pathfinder V5 SST (daily to annual) Merged dt SLA (SSALTO/DUACS - weekly, monthly) SeaWiFS Chl-a (daily to monthly) Quickscat Winds (weekly) Could be interesting the availability of SLA datasets for coastal zones...(i.e. ALTICORE products)
Open sea Applications/1 - Validation of hydrodynamic regional models by means of: • In situ: CTD, XBT; • Satellite: SST (AVHRR, MODIS); OC and SST (surface features); SLA ; (SSS SMOS data ???); Here an example of comparison between AVHRR pathfinder SST time series and the SST simulated by different model setups.
28/10/2002 SeaWIFS Chl-a AE1 AE2 Open sea Applications/2 - The use of L1b and L2 Ocean Color and SST data furnishes the synopsis of surface mesoscale features sampled during oceanographic cruises. Help on interpretation of in situ data.
Open sea Applications/3 (science) • Physical-Biological coupling in the western Med. Variability of Chl field and its relationships with physical forcing, with special focus on mesoscale features (AEs, coastal currents). • Time series analysis of satellite data by means of wavelet and EOF methods for the study of spatial and temporal variability of Chl, SST and SLA fields. • Chlorophyll patchiness.
Coastal Applications • Field sampling of TSM simultaneous with satellite (MODIS) overpass, is planned in July 2007 for the Oristano Gulf and surrounding area. • It may consitute a methodology for monitoring the coastal waters togheter with the hydrodynamic costal model. • It is an example of the possible integration between modelling, in situ sampling and remotely - sensed data for study and monitoring coastal seas.
