Device Purpose • This device will launch a Mini Cooper Hot Wheels car at a high velocity. • The Mini can be launched into any object. • Can be used as a mini wrecking ball.
Step One • Weight falls • Pulleys and string raise the elevator • Marble dumps from elevator into funnel
Step Two • Small Marble rolls through pipe • Small Marble collides with Large Marble and falls down reload pipe • Large Marble collides with Bouncy Ball
Step Three • Bouncy Ball falls through pipe • Ball collides with scissors
Step Four • Scissors cut string • Springs launch Mini up the ramp and into the air
Energy Conversions • Step One – GPE of the Weight raises the marble elevator and is transferred into GPE of the Small Marble • Step Two – GPE of the Small Marble is transferred into KE as it rolls, collision transfers into KE of the Large Marble, which transfers into KE of the Bouncy Ball
Energy Conversions (cont.) • Step Three – KE of Bouncy Ball increases with GPE as it falls through pipe • Step Four - KE of Bouncy Ball closes the scissors on the string to release EPE that is stored in the springs of the launcher. KE of the launching block is transferred into KE of the Mini.
Conclusions • Input – GPE of Weight = 2.83 Joules • Output - KE of Car = 0.197 Joules • Estimated Launch Speed = 3.1 m/s
