The Unequal heating of Earth What is it and how does it affect me?
How does the ocean affect climate and weather on land? • The world’s ocean is crucial to heating the planet. While land areas and the atmosphere absorb some sunlight, the majority of the sun’s radiation is absorbed by the ocean. The top few meters of the ocean stores as much heat as Earth's entire atmosphere. So, as the planet warms, it's the ocean that gets most of the extra energy.
How does the weather and land affect climate? • Water and land affect climate because when the temperatures of the land increase and decrease faster then the water's temperature, so air over the land is warmer in day and cooler in the night and the air over the water is cooler in the day and warmer in the night so the cooler air flows over to the warmer air causing the warmer air to rise, that is also called either a land or sea breeze
Why does the weather and land affect climate? • The irregular distribution of land and water surfaces is a major control of climate. Air temperatures are warmer in summer and colder in winter over the continents than they are over the oceans at the same latitude. This is because landmasses heat and cool more rapidly than bodies of water do.
