What is Pornography? Pornography is a broad general term which can be defined as "all sexually oriented material intended primarily to arouse the reader, viewer or listener."
Definition • Sexually explicit pictures, writing, or other material whose primary purpose is to cause sexual arousal • The word "pornography" has its roots in Greek, with "porn" meaning prostitute and "graph" meaning depiction • Depiction of erotic behavior intended to cause sexual excitement. The word originally signified any work of art or literature depicting the life of prostitutes.
What is Pornography? • 1–Pornography is a perversion that attacks everything God cherishes. Man is made in God's image. Therefore, the theological foundation against pornography begins with the premise that every human life has dignity and is sacred (Genesis 1:27).
What is Pornography? • 2–Pornography is destroying the innocence of children (Mark 9:42). It has been estimated that approximately 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 7 boys will be sexually molested before the age of 18. The relationship of pornography to child sexual abuse is compelling. Seventy-seven percent of those who molested boys and 87 percent of those who molested girls said they were regular users of hard-core pornography.
What is Pornography? • 3–Pornography is a lie. Pornography says the best sex is outside of marriage. Pornography promises what it cannot deliver. Proverbs 14:12 tells us, "There is a way which seems right unto a man but the end thereof are the ways of death."

Provocative Dress Whether you blame it on celebrities or just general cultural trends, there's no question that girls are dressing in a more sexually provocative way at a younger age than ever before. To deal with the issue, many schools have instituted a dress code that specifies things like minimum skirt length, and some schools have reverted to uniforms.
"Very provocative clothing just gets them into sexual deep waters they're not prepared to handle," says Madeline Levine, a child psychologist and author of "The Price of Privilege." Parents need to set limits the old-fashioned way, Levine says. Explain to your child that she must abide by your rules, and you have to feel comfortable with how she presents herself.
Girls tend to go for a sexy image because it feels strong, powerful, and rebellious, experts say, and fashion offers a way for girls to define themselves in terms of an "image" or identity.
Hey, I'm 22 and I totally agree with you Maria! I really hate immodesty--there's definitely a difference between immodesty and sexiness, you can be attractive without baring it all. When I see a bunch of cleavage or mini skirts I feel like girls have something to prove. I want to be respected, not stared at. Comment from Stay-At-Home-Moms blog
Mike Galanos currently hosts Prime News on HLN (formerly CNN Headline News). He is quoted as saying that, "porn is worse than crack..." The following are excerpts from one of his articles
Have parents out there ever even heard the term – sexting? Whether you want to admit it or not, teenagers are sending sexual messages and naked pictures of themselves to their boyfriends and girlfriends. In most cases it's the girl sending a picture or message to the guy.
Sexting If you're thinking to yourself right now, "What's the big deal?" then you should think again. This practice can ruin our teenagers' lives.
Sexting I've spoken with several attorneys on our show and it seems there is no one reason prosecutors are opting to charge teens with child porn instead of lesser charges.
Sexting The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy teamed up with CosmoGirl.com and asked over 1,200 teens about their sexual behaviors in cyberspace.
Sexting According to their study, 39 percent of teens (that's ages 13-19) are sending or posting sexually suggestive messages over IM, text or e-mail and around the same number of teens are receiving such messages. Half of those teens, 20 percent, are sending or posting nude or semi-nude pictures of themselves. That's frightening.
Why are our kids doing this? On our show, psychotherapist Stacy Kaiser said, "What I'm finding is a lot of girls are doing this because they're hoping it will help them get or keep a boyfriend." The numbers agree with Stacy.
Why are our kids doing this? According to the study, 51 percent of girls say it's "pressure from guys" that's making them send sexual messages and pictures of themselves. So guys are expecting this and our girls are saying "OK."
What Others Say About Porn Many men, “Christians” included, are caught in the deadly attraction to pornography. George Barna says that as many as one in six pastors struggle with or are addicted to pornography. We can conclude, therefore, that in each of our churches a sizeable percentage of men in our pews on a Sunday morning are in the heat of battle concerning this malady.
continuing…. Christians must become involved in the battle against pornography in order to protect themselves and fulfill God's call to be "salt and light." Only then will we be able to protect the children and other people we love from what has been called a "pornographic culture."
Cyber safety booklet • “The conversations that make kids good digital citizens aren’t about the technology; they’re about communicating your values as a parent. Teaching kids to treat others as they’d like to be treated online is key.”
Cyber safety booklet • Net Cetera tells parents and teachers what they need to know to talk to kids about issues like cyberbulling, sexting… • Talking to kids about these topics can help them…steer clear of inappropriate content like pornography…
Catechism of the Catholic ChurchParagraph 2354 • Pornography... offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each another. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants... since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense.
Jerry Falwell • Criticized pornography on religious-moral grounds. Saying sex is reserved for heterosexual married couples, to be used only in accordance with God's will, and asserts that use of pornography involves indulgence in lust (which is a sin) and leads to an overall increase in sexually immoral behavior.
Islam • The Qur'an 24:31 states "And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and keep covered their private parts, and that they should not show-off their beauty except what is apparent, and let them cast their shawls over their cleavage. And let them not show off their beauty except to their husbands...

Scripture specifically condemns the practices that result from pornography • sexual exposure (Gen. 9:21-23) • adultery (Lev. 18:20) • bestiality (Lev. 18:23) • homosexuality (Lev. 18:22 and 20:13) • incest (Lev. 18:6-18) • prostitution (Deut. 23:17-18)
The Bible warns against the misuse of sex • Premarital and extramarital sex is condemned • (1 Cor. 6:13-18; 1 Thess. 4:3) • Even thoughts of sexual immorality (often fed by pornographic material) are condemned • (Matt. 5:27-28)
Looking to Lust • Mt 5:27 "You have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not commit adultery.' • 28 "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. • Christ lays the laws upon the heart. If it is impure, full of unholy desires, one is guilty. It is our duty to keep the heart pure.

(NKJV) • 2 And let not your behavior be like that of this world, but be changed and made new in mind, so that by experience you may have knowledge of the good and pleasing and complete purpose of God. (BBE)
What Must We Do? • Keep ourselves pure by fleeing immorality (1 Cor. 6:18) • Think on those things which are pure (Phil. 4:8) • Pr 23:7a For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. • Pornography will fuel the sexual desire in abnormal ways and can eventually lead to even more debase perversion • "abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul" (1 Peter 2:11)
What Must We Do? • Parents must teach a wholesome, Biblical view of sex to their children • We must evaluate our exposure to media (magazines, TV shows, rock music, the Internet) with inappropriate sexual themes • Parents should set a positive example for their children, and take time to discuss stories, programs, and songs with them.
What Must We Do? • Preachers and teachers should warn Christians about the dangers of pornography and instruct a proper view of sexuality. • Messages should also be given to build a strong Christian home.
