Project Update • The data presented in this document are preliminary. They are the first estimates of direct impacts based on publicly available data. Next steps include refining congressional district values, checking the accuracy of significant economic drivers, and modeling the indirect and induced impacts. The SWOT analysis will be conducted once the economic modeling is complete.
Economic Impact Modeling • DoD contracts as well as contractor and base employment are the direct impacts • The multiplier effect (estimated using the REMI model) include indirect and induced effects • Indirect effects occur when a contractor buys goods and services in the local economy • Induced effects occur when contractor/base employees buy goods and services
Very Preliminary Data: Naval Station Great Lakes • Civilian Employees • 1,600+ Contractors • 3,900+ DoD civilians • 500+ NAF civilians • Military and family • 11,000+ active duty (staff and students) • Almost 7,000 family members • Tourism Impacts • About 3,000 families per week to witness graduations
Very Preliminary Data: Scott Air Force Base • Military • 5,533 active duty military • 2,384 Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve members • Federal Civilian • 5,085 Federal civilian employees • Family Members • Approximately 9,870 family members assigned
Very Preliminary Data: Rock Island Arsenal • Largest government owned and operated arsenal • Employs an estimated 7,500
