  2. Photosynthesis: Photosynthesis = the process by which plants make food “Photo” = light “Synthesis” = putting together

  3. Photosynthesis • Plants take in carbon dioxide from the air and water from the soil and use light energy to produce sugar (glucose) and oxygen * Carbon dioxide + water + light  sugar + oxygen What the equation above means is… * Carbon dioxide + water + light produces sugar and oxygen

  4. Photosynthesis • So when a plant takes in carbon dioxide, water, and light energy, it releases or GIVES OFFoxygen and sugar

  5. Respiration Oxygen is used to break apart the sugar in a plant to release energy Oxygen is released from the plant, and humans breathe in this oxygen Sugars and oxygen join to produce water, carbon dioxide, and energy
