What are exchanges AND their benefits? • The U.S. Department of State sponsors multiple non-degree, educational, cultural, and professional program exchanges across the world • Participants acquire or further develop: • Valuable academic and professional skills • A new academic and professional network • Leadership skills • Personal enrichment • A greater understanding of the complexities of the world around them • New knowledge of foreign cultures while helping increase mutual understanding between countries.
U.S.-Funded academic exchanges for Bih • High-school, undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, and professional level exchanges • Most fields of study are eligible. Participants study, conduct research, teach, or pursue combined university teaching and research at U.S. institutions • Length varies: from an academic semester to a full academic year • Programs and U.S. host institutions work together to provide participants with tools for a successful experience • Awards are open, merit-based, awarded competitively, and are subject to availability of funds • For most updated program information and to apply, visit: http://sarajevo.usembassy.gov/educational-exchanges.html.
GENERAL Selection Criteria • Academic achievement • A compelling project proposal and/or statement of purpose • Leadership potential, flexibility, and adaptability to successfully interact with the American host university and community • Willingness and ability to improve conditions in your community and home country upon return • Finalists for most programs are required to have valid TOEFL scores; the test is free of charge for finalists! • Apply and Stand Out from the Crowd!
Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) • One-semester scholarships for non-degree, full-time study at accredited four-year institutions of higher education in the United States, combined with community service, professional development workshops, and cultural enrichment activities • Visit us online around November 2017 for 2018-2019 academic year program details.
About Fulbright • The Fulbright program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and of other countries • The program provides participants with the opportunity to study, teach, conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns. Fulbright overview • Since its inception in 1946 more than 370,000 “Fulbrighters” have participated in the program • The Fulbright program is active in over 160 countries worldwide. BiH citizens or nationals go to the United States for their Fulbright program while U.S. Fulbrighters come to BiH for their Fulbright grants • Approximately 8,000 grants are awarded annually • Fulbright alumni serve in leadership positions in government, academia, business, the arts, science, journalism, and other professional fields and are the recipients of 53 Nobel Prizes among other prestigious awards • Learn more about the Fulbright program at: https://eca.state.gov/fulbright.
Fulbright foreign student program • Read the entire program announcement and apply online: https://sarajevo.usembassy.gov/fulbright-student.html • The program provides grants (financial support) to conduct non-degree, full-time research at the graduate level from a minimum of four months to a maximum of nine months at U.S. institutions of higher education • Applications are received for the Visiting Student Researcher category • Applications for 2018-2019 academic year are due April 30, 2017.
Fulbright foreign student AWARD BENEFITS • Grants generally include: • Round-trip international airfare • Stipends intended to cover housing expenses and living expenses • A one-time settling-in allowance • Health insurance that meets J visa Exchange Visitor Program regulations • Book allowance • Return baggage allowance. • As part of the affiliation with U.S. host institution, grantees generally have access to: • Work space, university ID cards, borrowing privileges at university libraries, access to appropriate laboratories, account for computer facilities, and off-campus housing. • The program does not assist with housing arrangements.
Fulbright visiting scholar program • Provides grants (financial support) to conduct post-doctoral research, lecture, or pursue combined lecturing and research at U.S. institutions up to 10 months • Visit us online around October 2017 for 2018-2019 academic year program details.
