  1. Focus: How can we learn to write notes in class that will help us be better students?

  2. Self-Reflection • Number your paper from 1-5.

  3. Write your answers for the following statements The notes I take are on random sheets of paper and I never know where I put them when I need to review them.

  4. The results! • Add up the total number for “NO’s” you have. • Put that number on your paper and circle it. • 5 mean you are a great note-taker. • 3-4 mean you are on the right track. • 2 or less mean you need a note-taking overhaul.

  5. So what do I do? • When taking notes you should: • Use bullets • Concentrate on the speaker • Picture the topic in your head • Use your Instant messaging and text messaging skills!

  6. Follow these steps to help you in class.

  7. Step One • Short- 8 words or less Copy this!

  8. Step Two • Main ideas/ important facts only Copy this!

  9. Step Three • Paraphrase the information- put into your own words. Copy this!

  10. Step Four • No complete sentences – no need for punctuation Copy this!

  11. Step Five • Abbreviate: Use slashes (/), dashes, (-) and other symbols in place of words! Copy this!

  12. Activity Time • Work with a partner or alone and decode the following notes based on the article you read for bell work.
