Loggerhead • Eats: Shellfish • Can be found as far north as Newfoundland • Coloration: Reddish Brown • 5 or 6 Costal Scutes
Green Sea Turtle • Eats: Sea grass and algae • Single pair of prefrontal scales • Green sea turtles get their name from the food they eat • 4 Costal Scutes
Leatherback • Eats: Jellyfish • The only sea turtle without a hard shell • The largest sea turtle • Travels further than any other sea turtle
Hawksbill • Eats: sponges, anemones, shrimp, and squid • The hawksbill can get food from the crevices in coral reefs. • Named for its bird-like beak • 4 Costal Scutes
Kemp’s Ridley • Eats: shellfish • The Kemp’s Ridley is named after researcher Richard Kemp who is among the first to discover and study this sea turtle • This is the most endangered of all sea turtles • 5 Costal Scutes
Flatback • Eats: Mostly squid, shrimp, and mollusks • Named for its falttened carapace • Nests only in Australia • The edges of its carapace are upturned • 4 Costal Scutes • 1 pair of prefrontal scales
