Top Level Domains • What are top level domains? • The period and the last 3 letters in a domain name. • Can you name 5 of them? • .com • .net • .org • .mil • .edu
Top Level Domains • Countries also have their own domain extensions.. These have 2 letters. • For example, United States is .us • Can you guess the following Countries based off their codes? • .De • .Ru • .Mx • .Ca
Hyperlinks • Hyperlink: any word, phrase, or picture, when clicked, takes the user to another location. • You use hyperlinks EVERYTIME you use the Internet.
How Web Addresses & Paths Work • Web browsers use a URL as a map to follow a path directly to a resource you are requesting. • Ie: http://www.myspace.com/imyourbuddy or http://www.yakima.net/news/news.jpg • So, if I were to goto http://www.yakima.net/images/christmas/santa.jpg • The primary folder is “images” the subfolder is “christmas” and the file is “santa.jpg”.
Teamwork • What is a team? • Group of people who share common tasks and goals within a company or organization. • Large teams are often organized into departments, who are responsible for critical functions within the company. • Research • Accounting • Marketing • Human Resources • Legal Services • Etc.
Teamwork • Teamwork involves combining the efforts of two or more people to accomplish a task or achieve a goal. • For a team to function well, each team member MUST understand the purpose, or goals, of the team.
Teamwork • Guidelines for working effectively in teams. • Set clear goals and create a plan to meet them. • Define the responsibilites of each member. • Identify how success will be measured. • Identify obstacles and how you will overcome them. • Communicate clearly and frequently. • Be open to feedback. • Discuss how differences will be resolved. • Build on strengths of members. • Develop trust by doing your part well.

CoNfLiCt! &^%$! • 1. Communicate • Listen & Talk – understand the situation • 2. Analyze • Determine the underlying, or real, problems • 3. Be Objective • Focus on the issue – not the person. Keep feelings out of it. • 4. Look Inward • Objectively examine yourself. Are you honestly contributing to the problem? Be willing to admit your mistakes and apologize if necessary.
CoNfLiCt! &^%$! • 5. Look for Solutions! • Brainstorm with your group members, co-workers, parents, siblings, etc. Try to find a resolve • 6. Be Tactful • Focus on finding a solution rather than placing blame. Placing blame only breeds more blame and resentment. • 7. Compromise • Be willing to give up demands or make adjustments to reach a settlement. Try to make everyone happy if possible.
