High School Guidance Counselor Workshop February 14, 2007. Accel Program PURPOSE. To provide GA High School students with the opportunity to earn college degree-level credit hours as they simultaneously meet their high school graduation requirements.

Accel ProgramPURPOSE • To provide GA High School students with the opportunity to earn college degree-level credit hours as they simultaneously meet their high school graduation requirements. • To assist students who have already successfully completed most of the academically meaningful coursework available at their high school.
Accel ProgramELIGIBILITY • Public high school students were eligible starting Fall 2004. • Private high school students were eligible starting Winter/Spring 2005. • Since Winter/Spring 2005, courses must be in one of the five CPC areas (English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Foreign Language). • Accel not available during Summer terms. • Accel hours will be included in the 127 semester/190 quarter Combined-Paid-Hours limit for HOPE.
Accel ProgramAWARD AMOUNTS • Students attending public institutions receive tuition, HOPE-approved mandatory fees, and a book allowance up $100 per quarter or $150 per semester. • Students attending private institutions receive up to $3,000 per academic year for full-time enrollment (or a pro-rated amount for less than full-time attendance).
What is Financial Aid? • Financial aid is money from other sources to help pay educational costs • Sources such as: • Federal Government • State Government • Colleges and Universities • Community Groups (Religious Organizations, Civic Organizations, Corporations,Professional Organizations, etc.)
Types of Financial Aid • Merit Based Scholarship • Need Based Grant • Student or Parent Loans • Service Cancelable Loans for Critical Field Service • Employment Opportunities, Work Study • Military Aid and Grants • Savings Plans
What is Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship? • Largest Non-Need Based Program in Nation Students must : • Meet Academic Requirement of 3.0 GPA in core classes for College Prep or 3.2 GPA for Technical Career Prep • Citizenship • Residency • Enroll in a HOPE eligible School in Georgia
HOPE Scholarship Award Amounts • At a Georgia public college, university or technical college: • Award will cover tuition, HOPE-approved mandatory fees, and a book allowance • At a Georgia private college: • Award will be $3,000 per academic year for full-time study
HOPE Eligibility – 2007 and Beyond • A complete transcript submitted to GSFC • HOPE eligibility calculated by GSFC • Calculated based on a 4.0 grading scale • Counts all grades in all core classes • Local weights removed by GSFC • Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate weighted • Weighting done by GSFC
